End of days

I'm not sure why my mind responds the way it does to this one, maybe there's a bit of future me in there, but it has a sadness, an old man and his old dog, not much longer to roam.

The longevity of stone

However the future played out for AW and Elsie this head will look out over the fields for many lifetimes.

Sunday 27 September 2020

The Recumbent

Second from The Roaches, this time a head lying in the grass. If you can see it then we're on the same wavelength.

Sculpted

There will be a few of these, pictures from 'The Roaches', gritstone remainders in the Peak District. It's another one of those things where some people will see more than others, the shapes becoming faces or whatever. Look carefully and your emotions will show you what's there.

Border Walls

I do like a drystone wall, such a lovely sight and such great craftsmanship. It's sad when they fall into disrepair but I suppose the need to enclose is less now that once it was.

What's the story?

Someone knows how and why this wreck ended up here but there's probably plenty more assumptions and stories made up by those who don't. They may be more exciting but whatever, let the tales be told.

Give me honest over quaint

It's a pretty view, a blue lake under blue skies, but this tells its story more honestly.

Wednesday 2 September 2020

Essence of a Friesian cow

A good walk isn't just hoping you know where you're going and wishing to find what you're seeking, it's about the pieces along the way that you can never plan for. A little innocuous remain of a sign in a field, but one that had the colour and pattern of a Friesian cow, to me.

Bottles, a study in watercolour

Bottles cast to the lake when the drinking is done take on a painterly effect when a breeze licks the surface, disguising the waste within.

Sunday 30 August 2020

Haunting ground

There's something about a graveyard that draws me in, the architecture, the iconography and the names, long lost today's lists but conjouring up an image of a person to be reckoned with. Obediah was a Great Great Grandfather of mine, not here, he has his cross on Cornish ground.

Nature's Firework

This is why I carry a camera when I walk the dog, the unexpected. Yes it's been tweaked up a bit but enhanced not invented and that's okay.

You can't see it but it looks like this

The fun in Infrared is that you never know exactly what you'll get. Add a long exposure and it's even more pot luck.

Sunday 24 May 2020

Wind in the beeches

An Infra Red conversion of a long exposure. This one surrendered to digital after two failed films. I'm not precious over the how, I'm grateful for options.

Morning river

The beauty of film is that a single roll can last in the camera for six months or more. The problem with film is that a single roll can take six months or more to finish.
Early spring sun on the river.

Say what you see

If you can't see animals in clouds and can't spend ten minutes in front of a piece of abstract art then you'll probably say 'leaf' when faced with the below and it probably means we wouldn't get on.

Here's what may be a witch that I found in a tree. There will be more.
